Executive Director

Dan Reilly has worked at Capital Area Peer Services since 2006. When he was originally hired, it was as a case manager for three of the residents at 100 Clinton Avenue who were temporarily housed on Livingston Avenue due to a major renovation of 100 Clinton Avenue. This position was supposed to last approximately three months. Before that time was up, there became a vacancy in the position of Program Director, and he was asked to fill it. He had worked for several years prior to this as a mental health counselor in a residential program and advanced to the position of case manager in an independent apartment program for Unity House.

After three and a half years as the Program Director at 100 Clinton, a vacancy occurred in the position of Executive Director. The Board President asked him to fill the position first in an acting capacity and eventually the position was made permanent in October of 2009.

In addition to his human services background, he has worked in many occupations. He served six years in the military, two years on a border unit on the Czechoslovakian border in the early 80s, two with the 101st Airborne/ Air Assault Division, and finally two in the late 80s when he was stationed in Germany at the time of the collapse of the Berlin wall. He has also worked in the logging industry, construction, wine bottling in California, import-export in Georgia, auto factory work and drafting in Detroit and sales of insurance, newspaper advertising (where he met Dawn, his wife of 25 years), and eventually auto sales and service before returning to college in his 40s to pursue his current field of human services. He feels that this diversity of experience makes him more in tune with the life experiences of others and empathetic to many types of people from all over the country as well as the world.

Before meeting his wife, he was a single father raising a son. With his wife’s participation and support, he has raised a successful young man who is married to a nurse and the two of them have provided Dan and his wife, Dawn, with two wonderful grandchildren.
